The MLC Ticker Group has defeated the group led by Professor Tom Adamson of Midland Lutheran College, in The Great Stock Showdown. The competition, which began in late September, finished December 7, 2007 with both teams making a profit. Team MLC Ticker finished with a 22.8% gain, meaning an investment of $ 1,000 in this basket of stocks would now be worth $ 1,228. Not a bad rate considering this was only a three-month period. The team lead by Professor Adamson scored a profit of 6.7%, meaning a $ 1,000 investment would now be worth $ 1,067. Again, a very healthy gain in such a short timeframe. Although there can only be one winner, both teams did an excellent job of beating the S&P 500’s return, over the three month period, of 1.9 %. This is an accomplishment 80% of mutual funds fail to do, both teams should be proud. Thank you for reading; both teams had fun bringing this event to you. The Great Stock Showdown will return in early February with a new set of stocks and a new class of students.
