Verification for Federal Title IV Aid Eligibility

Approximately 30% of all FAFSA applications are selected for verification by the federal processing center.  Additional applications may also be selected by the MLC Financial Aid Office.  Students selected for verification must submit a signed copy of their U.S. Income Tax Return.  Dependent students must also submit a signed copy of their parents’ U.S. Income Tax Return.  For the 2007-2008 academic year, the 2006 tax returns are required.  Additional documentation, such as a verification worksheet, may also be required.  The Financial Aid Office will notify students of the documentation requirements at the time the award notification is sent.

The deadline to submit all required documentation is 30 days after the start of the semester, or the last day of attendance, whichever comes first. Please note that the Financial Aid Office is unable to certify a student’s Stafford Loan eligibility until verification is complete.

Students whose award(s) or eligibility for Title IV aid is changed because of verification will receive written notification of any changes within two weeks after verification is completed.
