Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid & Scholarships

To receive or renew financial assistance from Midland Lutheran College, students are required to make academic progress toward completion of a degree.  Satisfactory progress is evaluated once each year at the end of the spring semester.

For federal financial aid programs, a student must meet the following criteria:

        A.     Complete at least 67% of the credits attempted each academic year,

        B.     Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, and

        C.     Complete a course of study within a maximum of six academic years or 12 regular semesters, if enrolled in a traditional day program.  Complete a course of study within a maximum of seven years or 21 trimesters, if enrolled in the iMpact program.

Any student who does not meet both requirements A and B above will be placed on financial aid probation for one year.  While on probation, the student may continue to receive all federal aid for which he or she is eligible.  The student must meet all of the above criteria at the end of the probationary period in order to continue receiving aid for subsequent periods of enrollment.  Students who do not meet the criteria at the end of the probationary period are ineligible to receive further federal aid until the criteria have been met for at least one semester. The student has the right to appeal the suspension in writing to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Appeal Committee if extenuating circumstances prevented him or her from meeting the requirements.

Students who do not meet requirement C above will be ineligible for federal financial aid.  These students have the right to an appeal as described in the previous paragraph, if extenuating circumstances exist.

For academic scholarships, a student must also meet certain academic standards based on the particular scholarship he/she receives.  Standards for individual scholarships are available at the Financial Aid Office.
