Baccalaureate Degrees
The baccalaureate degree is an undergraduate program of liberal arts and sciences with specialized training in a variety of departmental major fields. To be eligible for one of the four baccalaureate degrees, the student must achieve the following requirements:
I. The successful completion of 128 credit hours or the equivalent.

** No more than six credit-hours or two courses from any one department
*** iMpact students are not required to meet the foreign language competency, Exercise, Diet, Nutrition and Stress Management, Aesthetic Sensitivity Participating and the physical exercise requirements. The First Year Seminar Requirement may be met by transferring ENG 101 and ENG 102 or completing iMpact English Composition.
B. Departmental Major
Work taken in the major permits the student to inquire in-depth into a subject of choice and to pursue a coordinated and intensive study within a field. Credit hour requirements and designated “W” and “C” courses differ from major to major, as noted in the Course Offering section of this catalog. Each baccalaureate degree candidate must successfully complete at least one academic major.
II. Grade point averages must be maintained as follows:
A. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00.
B. A minimum grade point average of 2.25 unless otherwise specified by each department in work taken in the major or minor
III. The major portion of course work applied to the baccalaureate degree must be graded on the A-F system.
A. A minimum of 86 credit hours must be graded on the A-F system.
B. A minimum of two-thirds of the credit hours in major and minor areas must be graded on the A-F system. Many majors require all courses to be graded on the A-F system.
IV. Residence requirements stipulate that 32 of the final 40 credit hours must be completed in residence at Midland.
V. All financial obligations to the College must be fulfilled.
Special Studies Major. In addition to the majors named, Midland students, with the assistance of their advisor and the approval of the Committee on Academic Development, have the opportunity to develop their own program leading to a major.
The special studies major may be an interdisciplinary major or a special combination of courses within a department. It may be developed through the regular course offerings of the College as well as tutorials and independent study. A special studies major must be applied for no later than first semester of the junior year.
